I Aint Afraid To Touch Myself..

1st, get your mind out of the gutter, Sis. I’m talking about a Breast self-exam. Regularly examining your breasts on your own, can be an important way to find a breast cancer early, when it’s more likely to be treated successfully. While no single test can detect all breast cancers early, Breastcancer.org believes that performing breast self-exam in combination with other screening methods can increase the odds of early detection.

Use our 5 easy steps to learn how:

STEP ONE

Start by looking at your breasts in the mirror with your shoulders straight and you hand son your hips. You should be looking for:

  • Breasts that are their usual size, shape and color

  • Breasts that are evenly shaped without distortion or swelling

If you see any dimpling, puckering or bulging of the skin, a change in the position of your nipple, redness, soreness, swelling or a rash please bring them to your doctor’s attention as soon as possible.

STEP TWO

Next, raise your arms above your head, and look for the same things as Step One.

STEP THREE

While you’re in the mirror, look for any signs of fluid coming out of one or both of your nipples. This can be watery, milky or yellow fluid or even blood.

STEP FOUR

Then, feel your breasts while lying down on your back. Use your right hand to feel your left breast and your left hand to feel your right breast. Use a firm, smooth touch with your fingers flat and together. Use a short, circular motion to feel around your entire breasts from top to bottom and side to side.

Begin at the nipple then move outward in larger circles until you reach the edge of your breasts. You can also move your finger vertically and horizontally in rows.

STEP FIVE

Finally, feel your breast while you are standing or sitting. Many women suggest performing a self breast exam while your skin in wet, You can perform the exam in the shower also.
